10.5 Weeks After Laser Hair Removal Session #4

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Sorry for the lack of updates in the past 3.5 weeks. I FINALLY got a new digital camera yesterday so the first thing I did was take some pictures of my arms and legs for the site. It’s been 10.5 weeks now and things are looking somewhat consistant. Hair has grown back but it is much thinner on both my arms and legs. I would say my legs have responded the best and overall I’ve probably seen a 75% reduction in hair on my legs! And I think it looks pretty natural as well, which is something I was worried about. I’m really excited about that. I was looking back through some of the “before photos” yesterday and it’s amazing how much less hair I have now! I definitely feel like I’ve done the right thing and I really dislike the old look now.

My upper arms definitely have hairs that need to be taken care of but the hairs are pretty thin. They may be somewhat dark but they’re thin enough that I’m not freaking out over them. (If they were dark and coarse like before I WOULD be freaking out over them.)

So I think I’m going to make an appointment for laser hair removal on my upper arms next week in NYC. This time I’m JUST going to get my upper arms done. I’m pretty satisfied with the results on my legs and lower arms for the time being. If, 24 weeks in, things start to get bad I will setup another appointment! But I think I’m done with my legs for now! The best part is that my legs were running around $700 a session so I’m going to be saving a ton of money now too! My upper arms should only cost around $150-$200 to get done this time. Additionally, this will be the last time I get laser hair removal before I go back to Florida for the winter. So if I go again, I will probably be going back to Dermacare in South Beach, where I went before.

I will keep you updated on things on a weekly basis again, with pictures, now that I have a nice new digital camera. Below are some pictures from from, 10.5 weeks after my 4th laser hair removal session. Click the pictures for a larger image.

Two Weeks After Laser Hair Removal Session #4

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

So, it’s been two weeks now since laser hair removal treatment #4 and I’m in Las Vegas where it’s hot enough to breed sheep! I’ve been using SPF-45 sunscreen all week but I’m still getting a little color. No adverse side effects at this point though. Honestly, there’s not much to report right now, but I’ll give a quick breakdown:

-I’m shedding quickly. I think I’ve shed almost everything I’m going to shed at this point.
-I’m already seeing hairs growing back on some weird parts of my upper arm, like the inside of my arm.
-I think my upper arm is going to end up being my biggest issue in the long run.
-I’m seeing a few hairs on my shoulders that we either missed or they’re new hairs coming in.
-They intentionally missed a spot on my leg, because it was all cut up, and it’s looking a little odd now being the only bit of hair on my legs.
-I think I might go to NYC later this week or early next week for a touch up and to show them the hairs on my arms and figure out what to do about these.

As promised, here are the pics of my arms and legs from this week. Honestly, there’s not much to see, as I’ve shed pretty much everything. But you can see my legs, and the cut on my right leg, that they had to go around and now, as a result, is the only area with any hair on my legs. Also, if you look at the two pictures of my arms, you can see the hairs that are growing on the left upper side of my arm, just above my elbow. It’s really hard to take pics of them. But those are the hairs I mostly wanted to highlight, since I think its weird that they’re coming in at all.

One Week After Laser Hair Removal Session #4

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Hey everybody! Another week another post! It’s a little weird for me to be doing these posts on Mondays now after being so used to doing them (or trying to) every Thursday for the past 6 months. I was starting to get pretty used to it.

So it’s been a week since my fourth laser hair removal session in New York City at Romeo and Juliette Laser Hair Removal. Things have been going pretty well but there were a few things I noticed in the past week that have never happend before. First off, I noticed that my skin looked a little bruised in some areas! Could it be from the higher laser settings? It’s possible. This was mainly happening on my legs, but I noticed my arms were a little red for a bit longer than usual. I also noticed that a few of my small moles, that got lasers in the process, are a bit darker. I’ve noticed this before but then they seemed to fade back after a few days. We’ll, it’s been a week now and they’re still pretty dark brown/black. Oh well. Not really a big deal. Remember in the past when I thought my legs were losing color? Well, that cleared itself up, so I guess I just need to give everything some time.

As far as the hair is concerned, I’m still waiting to shed. I’m seeing little hairs, that look like stubble, popping up everywhere. Nothing out of the ordinary. I’m just really focusing on my upper arms right now and hoping that they shed fine, and that the hair doesn’t grow back super quickly! I really need to get these upper arm hairs taken care of and I think they’ve become my biggest concern, now that my arm and leg hair is thinning out!

This upcoming week is going to be very interesting. I’m headed to Las Vegas for a week and was planning on hanging out at the pools as I always do. However, since I just had this laser hair removal session a week ago, I’m a little concerned. I’ve always been told to stay the hell out of the sun after each session! So I’m not sure what’s going to happen…I’m planning on packing some SPF-40 or SPF-50 sunscreen and putting that on pretty heavily and frequently. I hope that does the trick. We’ll see.

I’ll post pictures of my current hair growth in the next day or so before I leave for Vegas!

My Fourth Laser Hair Removal Session

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

On Monday I had my 4th laser hair removal treatment, my second of which was done at Romeo and Juliette laser hair removal in NYC. I’m happy to report that everything went great! I finally got to meet Chris, the owner of Romeo and Juliette, and he was very active in my treatment this session, looking over my skin and figuring out the laser settings for this session.

I was lucky enough to be treated with the new GentleMax laser this session, whereas they used the GentleLase for the last session. I’d heard about the GentleMax on the internet while doing some research on Google and some laser hair removal forums, and everything said how it was a very effective top of the line laser! We’ll see how true those claims turn out to be in the next couple months.

This session I was treated with 18 joules at 3 milliseconds with an 18mm spot size on both my legs and arms. These settings were said to be aggressive for my skin type but should bear better results, especially on my upper arms where the skin is light and the new hairs and dark and coarse. I was so happy that I was finally getting these upper arm hairs taken care of!

I noticed that the higher laser settings definitely resulted in a little more pain on certain areas on my legs! It was pretty uncomfortable at times but the girl working the laser was great and was OK with stopping for a quick break whenever I needed it. I even remembered to take an aspirin before the session, but the laser still hurt at times, mostly on my upper legs where I’m more sensitive.

After the treatment on my legs and then arms, my arms were pretty puffy so we kept applying cream to make sure the swelling would go down as quickly as possible. They even gave me cream to take with me when I left to make sure i had some if needed! They were overly cautious about everything but its great that they go to those lengths to make sure your OK!

My skin was red and puffy for about another hour or so after leaving the office but then everything was fine. It looked like they did a great job this session and I noticed that the laser tech was very thorough with the treated areas, so I should have nice even results! (No one wants patchy results.) As I was driving home I realized that I’m very lucky to be getting such top notch hair removal treatments. I’m very happy with all the treatments to date, and I find that it’s worth it for me to drive 4 hours to New York City.

So there you have it – my 4th laser hair removal experience! Now I just have to sit back and let the treatment run its course over the next weeks/months. I’ll try my hardest to do the weekly updates and take good, clear photos for everyone to check out!

Laser Hair Removal Picture Updates

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

I was slacking on the photos for a while as I was having a really hard time getting good shots in my bathrooms. I’ve updated the six weeks update post and the ten weeks update post to include pictures. The photos in the six weeks post aren’t that great, because it’s still hard to see the hair, but the ten weeks post is pretty good. I got lucky with some decent lighting and the amount of hair is detailed pretty well! Enjoy!

Five Weeks After Laser Hair Removal Session #3

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

I’m five weeks in since my last laser hair removal session and I still haven’t shaved! However, I’m thinking about breaking down and shaving my upper arms/shoulders in the next few days or sometime next week. I’ll be heading to LA for a week or so next Thursday and I think my upper arms/shoulders kind of make my arms look sloppy and I’m a little embarrassed about it. So I’ll probably shave it before I go to the beach.

I’m noticing that my hair is starting to come in a little bit now. I’ve had some fine hairs since shedding, but it looks like the hair is just starting to get some color to it now and it’s looking a little darker. I don’t think I’ll need to shave it in the next week or so though unless something changes very quickly.

So, once I get back from LA it should be seven weeks since my last laser hair removal session and I’ll be getting ready to go in for my next session at week number eight! I’m actually really looking forward to this next session so I can try to get this upper arm/shoulder hair taken care of and some of these small spots as well.

Do You Tell Family And Friends About Laser Hair Removal?

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

I’ve been wondering how others handle their laser hair removal situations. Believe it or not, I’m pretty tight lipped about all this stuff to people I know well. Even though I run a blog where I disclose everything, I haven’t told anyone in my family about getting laser hair removal and I’ve only told a handful of close friends. I feel great about everything I’m going through, but I’d rather not bring it up to family until I’ve finished my sessions and I’m satisfied with my results. Also, it’s obviously a little weirder for guys to talk about than girls!

So, do you tell your family and friends that your getting laser hair removal?

Laser Hair Removal Session #3 In New York City Tomorrow

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Early tomorrow morning I’ll be driving to New York City for an afternoon laser hair removal appointment. This will be my third laser hair removal treatment and the first at this new center in New York City. Everything I’ve seen about this place has been very positive, even though some said the price was expensive. But I should be paying around $1000 for this session, unless I go with a package deal. I may get the session for as low as $950 if I don’t come back for touch ups in 2-3 weeks, but I haven’t dealth with the exact specifics of that yet, but I will let everyone know what I ended up paying after tomorrow.

Additionally, I called my center in South Florida today and got my laser settings, so the new NYC center can be sure to use the same, or higher, settings. They were using the Cynosure Elite 755 Alexandrite at 18 joules with a 25 milliseconds pulse and a 12mm spot size. The Florida clinic said that they should probably up the settings to at least 20 joules tomorrow.

So right now I’m all shaved up and ready to go tomorrow. I probably won’t be able to take pictures right after the sessions, like I have in the past, since I’m not able to go right home and snap away 20 minutes after. I’ll try to figure something out tomorrow though. Maybe I’ll bring in my camera or iPhone in and take them right there after I’m done.

More to come tomorrow night or Friday!…..

Two Weeks After Laser Hair Removal Session #2

Friday, April 4th, 2008

So it’s already been two weeks! Time flys! That means I only have 4 more weeks to figure out WTF I’m going to do for my next session. Right now I have two options: fly back down to Florida for another session or try to find some place good near New York/Boston/Connecticut. So far I’m leaning more towards flying down to Florida, even if it would be more expensive and more of a hassle. Why? Because I like the place I’ve been going and I feel very comfortable there now. I’m wondering how much I could get them down to for my next session. I paid $1000 for each session so far, but I’m wonder if I book 3 or 4 more sessions with them if I could get them down to around $750-800 a session. That would make up for the price of my flights down to Florida anyways.

Something I’ve noticed in the past few weeks, but haven’t blogged about yet, is the fact that my right leg has some areas that are whiter than others now. Also, I noticed a few small areas on my left leg now that has the same thing happening. It’s causing a little bit of concern. The problem is that I don’t remember if the white areas were there before I started my first session or not. I remember it there after the first session, but I had so much hair on my legs for so many years that theres no way I would have noticed this and I only had my legs shaved for about 16 hours before my first laser hair removal session. I read something yesterday about pigments of skin becoming DARKER around some areas as a result of laser hair removal, but I didn’t see anything about the skin becoming LIGHTER.

If anyone has any idea about what I’m talking about here please leave me a comment and help me out!

One Week After My Second Laser Hair Removal Session

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

So I don’t really have much to write about since my last post. Everything has been good since my second laser hair session last week. I’ve been staying out of the sun and I haven’t had to many issues with “prickliness” like last time. I ended up shaving today, one week after my session, because the stubble was starting to be pretty annoying, but I didn’t have any really bad issues with my upper thighs like I did last time. I guess I did a much better job shaving this time. Even though the hair is shedding I definitely needed to trim it.

I took photos this week, but they came out pretty bad, not much to see, so I don’t think I’ll bother to resize and post them unless someone really wants to see. They results look a lot like the photos from the first week after my first session.

So, now that I only have 5 weeks to find another laser clinic to go to, that is what I’m going to be focusing on and probably blogging about. Does anyone know of any clinics around the US that definitely use the Cynosure Elite laser? I’m looking for something around the Northeast, but if it’s closer to New York than Florida is, it’s a place I would consider. If you know of a place, or you run a place that uses this Cynosure laser, please drop me a comment!

(Sorry for being late on this post. I realize that it’s almost been two weeks at this point!)

My Second Laser Hair Removal Session

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Wow, my skin reacted crazy to the laser today! This was most likely due to the fact that the strength of the laser was increased, so I was ready for a different reaction…or so I thought! All is well right now, about 9 hours after the session, but immediately after the laser tech would finish up an area, it would get VERY swollen and red! My arms and legs both blew up with these large bumps! I sort of started to panic to myself, but the laser tech said that she has a worse reaction typically, but things calm down quickly. She was right, because by the time I got home to take pics for the site the majority of the swelling and redness was gone. Next time, I’ll be ready for this reaction and won’t be so freaked out! Hopefully this information will help some readers be prepared for a reaction like this and ease any worries!

So aside from the reaction, how did everything go?! It went very well. I have to say though, I was a little shocked when I showed up and was introduced to my laser tech for the day. I was expecting to just get the same person as last time, who I was very comfortable with at this point, but instead I was introduced to a very attractive young (but still older than me) lady who would be my laser tech for the day! I probably started to blush because I was a little embarrassed, but whatever, I wasn’t going to back out or anything! She did a good job, but I didn’t feel as laid back as I did last time after just a couple minutes. I think next time I might request my old tech if possible. I think he was a little more thorough in his work, as he seemed to go slower and didn’t end up going back to any areas that he thought he may have missed. But either way, both experiences so far have been very positive! I really like this clinic.

Also, I was able to confirm that they are using the Cynosure Elite laser hair removal system today. The tech simply called it the Cynosure “755” and the “top of the line Cynosure model” but a quick Google search shows you that this is what Cynosure calls the Elite model. So for anyone wondering, there you have it, I’m using the Cynosure Elite system.

The laser tech praised the Cynosure system more than once! She said that she has worked with a lot of different equipment but this model really gives the best results that shes ever seen. She said that it typically hurts a little more than other lasers but it ends up giving much better results. I’m hoping to prove her right!

Here are some random notes that I made that I thought a lot of readers might find useful. I’m just going to throw them out there.

-Today I noticed that the increased settings definitely did cause me a little more discomfort. I even took some aspirin before the appointment. But no pain, no gain as they say!

-I would definitely recommend wearing pants and a long sleeve shirt to your laser hair removal appointments. You never know how your going to react and what your skin is going to look like when you leave!

-Drink lots of water before and after. The heat from the lasers can give you mild heat flashes or whatever they’re called. So stay hydrated.

-If your using the Cynosure laser, like I am, you’ll definitely want to always use sun screen afterwards and try to stay out of the sun as much as possible! The lady kept reinforcing this to me just like my last laser tech did. She said to really try to stay out of it for the next two weeks to avoid any “crusting” of the skin.

Laser Hair Removal Session #2 Tomorrow!

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Tomorrow afternoon I have my second laser hair removal session at the skin care clinic here in south Florida! I’m really looking forward to having this done again and I’m hoping that the laser tech will agree with me that because I had a good reaction to the results last time that he should be able to crank the laser up and use some stronger settings to maximize my results! Fewer sessions, with the same results as more sessions, would definitely be good for my wallet. (But I’m not going to cheap out on this at all!)

The only thing I’m not looking forward to is any prickliness on my upper legs again! Yes, that means around my butt. Last time I think I shaved up to high, where I didn’t even get treated, and it was a pain (literally) for a couple days after, as I mentioned in previous posts. So I guess I need to be more careful about where I shave this time.

Other than that, I’ve been pretty busy lately, so I haven’t even been thinking about this session as much. Definitely not as big of a deal as the first one where everything was unknown to me and I was nervous. Being on the road to less unwanted body hair is definitely great though! Check back tomorrow for some pictures of my skin after the second LHR session!

One Week After The First Laser Hair Removal Session

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I wanted to give a little update about what’s going on about one week after my first laser hair removal session. I noticed that I started to feel a little uncomfortable in certain areas, like my upper, upper thighs in the back near my butt…..where the short hair is rubbing! The prickly hair isn’t the best feeling! But it’s only in that area. It was probably a bad idea to shave up so high near my butt, because I don’t think I even got treated up that high. Anyhow, my arm and leg hair is shedding now and I can pull lots of hairs out very easily. I think it’s starting to look a little weird with all the little stubble hairs popping up. But hopefully I’ll keep shedding them and it’ll look better. A few hairs don’t seem to want to shed yet, as I can’t pull them out. I’m wondering how much longer for these ones to shed or if I should just shave them again. Can I even shave again right now…or is that bad? I guess I need to call the skin care center and find out or hit the forums.

Also, I want to give an update about the redness from the first laser hair removal session. The redness was completely gone by the next afternoon. So within 24 hours after a session you should be OK. I’m going to ask them to crank up the laser next time since I didn’t stay red or get blistered up!

Here are some pictures of my arm and leg about 8 or 9 days after my first laser hair removal session.
